Cedar longbow
« on: March 05, 2018, 07:30:23 am »
Greetings folks, I cut a nice  ERC  tree down in Nov. 2016 and got 4 really nice staves that I was going to make selfbows  with,. well  when I started reducing the sapwood I found more knots than I wanted so I decided to back this stave with maple. Its  a 65"  long and is pulling 58# @ 27". Its 1 and 5/16 wide at the handle and gradually tapers to less than 3/8 at the tips. The tip overlay is purpleheart and the handle is elk with kangaroo lace. Thickness is 3/4 at the handle and tapers to 1/2 tips. String is D-97. This is one of the faster bows I've built and is a joy to shoot with no handshock. I don't post many but seeing Boweds Maple R/D got me pumped. Thanks for looking!20180304_180714 by Robert Whitley, on Flickr

Thank you BJ and Ed, It means a lot coming from you guys. I tried to get as much weight as I could Ed, I don't know how long it'll last with the knots and all. I'll let you all know  if it blows😉!

Wow, that's a nice one!  The handle looks great too.  I am going to try those dimensions on the ERC stave that has been living in my garage rafters.

Thanks Dbar, Rps4,  Jeff,  Pat and Paul and Timbo. Yes Pat the smell is almost intoxicating, love it. The shelf is removable Del and it shoots well without one😉.
