what have you been avoiding?
« on: December 26, 2012, 03:55:41 am »
We have all had staves that we were intimidated by, or was just to much work, or just not sure if a bow is possible. So, the staves sits in the corner. In an effort to bring these staves to light, give them some hope, let's see those staves! Bring em back front and center, post them and make bows out of them. Feel free to post all your progress on here as we try for making bows of them. Points for the worst stave attempted.

Okay, here they are... well 4 of them anyway from left to right attempting a shoot through the middle hopefully there's enough good wood number 2 is voodoo formally posted as year of the snake... not super challenging but an expensive piece of wood so it makes me nervous number 3 how I don't know how describe this not riddled twisted piece of walnut but this 1 has me scratching my head ... thanks doc >:(  :D number 4 is the knotty knotty which should be easy enough the whole bunch of big knots always makes me nervous....

 Wish me luck ;)

Here is mine...

Its osage thats been outside for 10 ish years. Lots of bug tracks, checks, and rot. But I hope there is enough wood in these to make at least one bow 40 lbs around 25 inches...

Here is the one that I have had in the corner for a couple of years now. I will have to rework my tillering tree to even get it on there to pull on it. Could have sold it several times but  I will give it a go someday. It has been a real conversation piece to say the least. Dean

Several times Dean? I guess there is no use for me to beg then! Someday Im going to trip over a perfect stave like that. Until then I will trudge along with straight pieces.
