Sinew question.

How many Deer Leg sinews do you think it would take to do two layers on a 60-66 inch flat bow about 2 inches wide?

To do it right, probably 12-16.  But sinewing a 66" bow is not the best use of sinew.

It was going to be a 55ish inch bow but I wanted to make sure I had enough, hence the 60 to 66 range.

I think 12~16 is a bit of overkill there Lennie. 

I would say that 5 or 6 would be more like it, if you do it right.  Also 2" is way too wide and 66" is way too long even if it is a lower quality whitewood like White Ash.

Bubby and Simson have me itching to try my hand at an Ash Ishi bow.  I have the ash and 4 leg sinews but was wondering how many more I will have to get.  Marc or anyone else do you think 1.75 inches would be better or go with 1.5 for the width.  I wanted to try to keep the bow from taking much set, I do plan on heat treating it.  I just recently finished up a 57" ntn Ash bow that is about 1.25" wide at the handle and heat treated it 3 times during the tillering process and it ended up taking about .75" of set, I'm sure because of its narrow width.  It came in at 40# @28" draw.
