Busted a nice one

I had a decent point ready to be notched and sharpened.  One side had a tiny bump that stalled the notch early.  Tried to punch through it...



Crud.  Once I'm done grieving I'll rework it into something else... :'( ;)

That is a nice one George. Lately my B plan of smaller than intended size point has been the only plan working for me ;) Looks like you can make a nice save and get a keeper.

It's not busted, it's still "in progress". I'm sure the finished point will be killer.

George I feel your pain! Just did the same thing on a nice side notch the other day. In my case, it was the last stroke and the notches were already deep enough. So I just super glued it up and gonna put it on one of my arrows. I'm pretty sure the deer won't be focused on it.  :o

Yea, my notches just aren't deep enough to glue, but that's a good approach.  I brought the point in to work today. Looking at it closer I can see the platform was way too high. I should have punched a flake the other direction before trying to power through that bump. Doh..

OK, reworked it is.  Sort-of newnan-ish... ::)



Interestingly, a friend brought over a 5gal bucket of flint he'd picked up at his hog lease.  There was one nice chunk of georgetown in it and I knocked out a big triangle for him.  It was tough stone and I struggled thinning it.  Finally got a big triangle point about the same size as I started with here, though thicker.  Got one good notch but the other stalled right away.  I didn't mess up quite the same way, but before I got a good notch on the other side I knocked off a corner on it too. >:(  So, I did a newnan on that one too.  It was a better looking point, but this one is light enough to hunt with.

It was nearly done.  I had cleaned up the edge with the pressure flaker instead of the steel notcher and I think I like it better.  It's a more serrated edge.  I think I'll leave it that way.
