This bow was more of a test than anything else. I wanted to see how this wood stands up to heat tempering while being narrow and warty. buckthorn keeps surprising me. The bow is 1 1/8" wide from mid limb to mid limb, then tapering to 7/16" nocks. 60" NTN, mid forties @ 28". It took almost no set while tillering. 1 5/8" reflex, heat tempered belly, tung oil finish. It has 3 holes clear through the limbs and multiple knots. The coloration on the back is from debarking the stave while green and letting it air dry, not from dye or stain. Heat tempering turns this wood an almost florescent yellow just under the brown surface that when combined with the wood's orangeish heartwood creates some beautiful color patterns. I have been experimenting with buckthorn for some time and it is fast becoming my favorite wood to work. thanks for looking.
