When I do a beaver tail, I just scrape it down, cut to fit ( you'll want to fold the edge under where you stitch it together, so allow for that) stitch it on and let it dry.  If you don't double the edge, your stitches can pull when it dries and shrinks.   Josh

Josh,

Bow is looking real nice.
Why not just some modoc or other artwork on the rawhide.  I would think you could also stain the rawhide a cool color.  Seems to me that adding sturgeon skins on top of the rawhide is like double backing it.

I agree, do some 'artsy' thing on the rawhide.
Bowmakers are a little bent, but knappers are just plain flaky.

I agree but when I put the rawhide on it I made a rookie mistake and put a little too much glue in one area and it caused some ripples, they arent horrible but they arent pretty ill post some pics and see what you all think.

Use them in the artwork. They can become hills, waves, almost anything.

I think you can do stuff with it. Not cover it up. If you want to zebra it, I will send you some zebra hide (with hair of course) for the handle. ;)

Good Looking Progress Y'all!

Gun Doc, are you saying that you put the Beaver Tail on the handle Green and let it dry on the bow?
The reason I ask is that I am looking to do some Beaver Tail wraps as well.
Thank You!

:)

Was it Jerry Garcia?   ???  You can tie dye rawhide but you have to do it before you glue it down. Rawhide is a good medium for painting with craft paintAcrylic) or you can make up paint with earth pigments. If you do a busy enough Pacific Northwest paddle bow geometric design nobody will ever notice the ripples and if they do tell them it is authentic. You don't have to tell them authentic what! ;)
Bevan, I couldn't find my magic box.  ;D
