Arkansas River

went up to camp on the Arkansas river over the last holiday. Found a couple of these rocks. Not sure what they are but there was a point in the first one I worked.

Nice point, looks like a Florida Marion. And, looks like a tough piece of rock.

In about a month I'll be heading out camping/huntinf near a river , I want to see if I can find some knappable rocks that are native to my area, and If I do I'll definitely post about it 😊

You didnt lose much length. The point end looks like a better quality rock than the base, but you worked it all nicely!!

Thanks Eddie and your right it was pretty tough to work. Ive seen points from this material in some local collections so Im sure the Caddos used it. Also ncl good eye the base was more gritty than the tip, but it made a sharp point. Bob after a good weekend in the pit with you guys it gets easier to knap some of the tougher stuff. thanks for looking

Where at on the Arkansas? Looks like Boone chert.

Zuma, that's not a puppy that's a Russian bear dog. Don't know if you have ever seen one. All she does is rush around the table and bears down on a biscket. . JonW we where outside of Clarksville at Sprada camp ground. Beautiful spot.
