Knotty Osage Bow
« on: July 29, 2012, 08:42:52 pm »
Heres a knotty belly split from 16 year old seasoned osage I started on back at marshall over on memorial day. I had chased a ring and got it floor tillered out when i was up there. All it took was two more hours to be winging arrows with it friday eve. Turned out 60"ntn,slight bendy,at least mid 60's or more at 26"(i never used a tree or weighed it,just went by feel as i tillered),18.8 ounces mass weight, three small holes, and assymetrical by almost 3". It was the only way to lay it out best and still keep some length because of the knots. I never put any heat to it at all. Just au'natural and made a bow the way it was.

thanks for looking  ;)

That looks just like what I expected. Good job pulling a bow from that stave.

Great work on that one.  Nice example of how osage can bend through knots.  Love the full draw shot, tiller looks perfect to me.

You sure know how to find a bow in a junk piece of wood.  Great job on that one.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

Great looking bow from a challenging piece of wood.I'd rather not heat any of my bows either. At least that one layed right for you from a sideview profile.

Awesome work. Did you drill all of the knots out and when drilling them do you use anything to coat the inside of the vacancy?
I found many years ago that it is much easier and more rewarding working with those that don't know anything than those that know it all.
