How would 1/8" oak veneer be as a backing ? And is Titebond III good enough for gluing up ?

generally red oak is not a great choice for backing, i've used white oak and had great results, but i ripped it from a board so i dont know about veneer but i pesonally wouldn't use it. All the tight bond glues will work , Bub

Ok .
Another question , can a backing be spliced at center of handle ? I have some hickory gunstock trims from top of longrifle barrel channel that I could run through planer. They are 2" wide and 43" long.

They can be spliced with no problems.
