I posted this a few days ago, but it went away, so try again,,
this is the belly split off of a stave Allyn gave me, my daughter sent me the snake skin from texas road kill overnnighted it to me, but it got here late,, and smelled really bad, but got it cleaned up and you would never know ,, its beautiful,
the bow is 60 inches long and pulls about 55# 26 inches,, shoots good, Im not sure if I want to put a handle cause it will cover some of the snake, still thinking,,I put the art work on belly on one limb, the other wood is so nice gonna leave it,, will take more pictures when light outside,, enjoy,,

That is such a cool looking bow Brad
-
Very cool and unique bow. Love the artwork and black skins
-
Interesting artwork. I like it. Well done as usual.
-
Great looking bow as always. Love it.
-
thanks ,, here is side,,
-
snakey limb,, this limb has some sap wood and heart wood,, I thought the mix was so beautiful,,,just left it with no art work,, this stave looked so straight, but split out with some very beautiful character,,,you never know what the wood is gonna do,, :)
-
bottom limb, I forgot to mention,, this stave did not follow a growth ring, the back is just like it split off,,I just rasp it a bit even and sinewed it, it didnt seem to effect the way the bow tillered, or has not blown up yet,, the belly doesnt have feathered grain like a bow that follows the grain,, all in all I think this piece of wood would not have made a bow without the sinew for the back,, I was suprised how much draw weight such a narrow piece of hickory would hold,,I was going for like 45,, but it started shooting good and was bending pretty even so I just said ok,, the snake skin had a nice variation from dark to light and makes the bow look very interesting,,

let me find my cowboy hat and I will shoot a full draw,, ;D
-
Very cool-looking bow! Do you know what kind of snake?
-
I think it was a coach wip,, it was pretty long, I lost part of the tail, it was over 5 ft I am sure,,
-
Very cool and unique bow. Thanks for the pics
-
thanks guys for the postive support,, heres the full draw,
-
i really had fun making this one,, I didnt expect it to turn out really, wasnt sure about the the mix of heart wood and sap wood and not following a ring on the back,, the character was tricky on the tiller,, but came together nicely,,and still plenty of weight to hunt,, thanks for looking,,will try to post some chrono also,,
-
Brad I hate to be the one to tell you this but...that's not a cowboy hat
-
your right,, couldnt find it, didnt want to delay the full draw, ;D
shot it through the chronograph,, shooting 167fps with 465 grain arrow 26 inches of draw about 55#,8.45 gpp ,,,it has nice cast,, I have one more hickory stave,, will try putting a bit more reflex and a little more sinew and see how it compares,, I feel like if I narrowed the tip on that bottom limb it would help, but I didnt want to lose any of the snake skin,, :)
I learned alot making these two bows, that will help me make a better one next time, every bow you make adds to your depth of knowlege that helps you inprove,, I dont think you can figure it out on a computer, you just have to make the bows,, no easy way about it and thats what makes it so rewarding when you get one to shoot and the next one to shoot better,, )P(

I can't believe how much the grain waved through those staves.
-
Nice. congrads.

Another nice one - you're crankin 'em out! I never get tired of your art work.
-

thank you guys so much, sometimes life can get a bit stressful, so I been making bows for therapy,, i really enjoy the process and keeps my mind on the postitive, unless it blows up, but then I can just start another one, so its all good,,I am gonna have to order some more sinew and glue, but I enjoy that as well,, :) I just ordered some elk and mountain lion sinew, I thought the mountain lion would add some good luck to the next bow,,,,fox I am 67 now, so heading toward ancient,, maybe thats why they look the way they do,, ha,, ;D
-
Great bend on that bow Brad. Another beautiful bow!

(lol) (lol)
Well with age come knowledge ;)
-
Brad,,That bow came out great. I knew you could save that skin. It was meant to be on that bow. Remember, age is just a number. Congrats on another good bow build.
-
thanks Randy, it was really fun and challenging,, especially skinning the snake.. :)
-
Your daughter sent you a whole dead snake in the mail !! :o, No wonder it smelled bad, I thought it was just the skin! I wonder what my family would say if a dead snake came to my house in the mail (lol).
Beautiful Bow,
-
yes it was packed in dry ice and overnighted,, but the fed ex was delayed about 4 days, so it started to get pretty bad,, :D and thank you ,, it did turn out nice considering I was not sure if the skin was gonna be usable,,but it worked out ok,, (-S
-
Real nice artwork, and a good job saving the skin! Remember - old is 40 years older than we are ever going to be! Nice bow, too!
