I felt like spinnin wood this week and even though it's pretty hot out, the lathe is workin fine!

The first bowl is some crazy curly maple I got from Joe.
The middle is red oak burl from Clint.
The right bowl is American Holly from ridgerunner.

Those look sweet, Scott. I need to hunt down a nice burl for you. Ever try cherry wood?

			-
Is there much of a market for cherry burls? Is it easy to remove burl without harming the tree?

			-
Cherry makes a nice turning wood. Any burl has value - some more than others. Depending on the way it's growing on the tree you may be able to chainsaw it off close, just like removing a limb.

			-
If funds were needed, Wilder Creek might have a bonanza with the many many cherry burls on their property.

			-
Is it just me?  I can't see any pictures  ???

			-
				Loads fine for me.
I've seen some of them hidin back in there

Those are amazing, Scott, beautiful! I'll trade you for any spoon size scrap.

				those are very nice!!!

			-
What dimensions are you looking for Eddie?

			-
Wow!  Terrific work, and beautiful bowls!  I don't have a lathe, would have to try to do that by gouge and Scorp, and sanding if I could find a big enough burl.

				Cool, thanks Scott.

				How does that Holly turn??
BTW I have another hunk at home that is twice the size of the one I gave you :D

Very well! In fact, it turned so good I almost took the rough bowl to thin. After the initial rough in I let it set and there is some warping that happens normally. When I finish turned it to true it up I had to take the walls thinner than I would have liked. The holly handled the whole process like a champ and has a very pleasant texture when finished. I'm looking forward to the other half I have and would welcome a trade for more if you don't have a use for it.

				Sweet looking bowls..
Thanks Leroy

			-
				Man those are NICE!  :OK
Do you stabilize the wood before turning or is it just well seasoned ?

			-
I've worked a few stabilized blanks, but mostly fresh or seasoned wood.

			-
				Awesome work Scott

			-
You put those out on the trade blanket and you are gonna have some mighty quick bowl movements!    ;D

Beautiful work Scott, some very pretty grain patterns and colors in those various wood species. I bet you were covered in debris sticking to you like velcro in this heat and humidity as the chips were flying.
