Wooden bowls

I felt like spinnin wood this week and even though it's pretty hot out, the lathe is workin fine!





The first bowl is some crazy curly maple I got from Joe.
The middle is red oak burl from Clint.
The right bowl is American Holly from ridgerunner.

Those look sweet, Scott. I need to hunt down a nice burl for you. Ever try cherry wood?

Is there much of a market for cherry burls? Is it easy to remove burl without harming the tree?

Cherry makes a nice turning wood. Any burl has value - some more than others. Depending on the way it's growing on the tree you may be able to chainsaw it off close, just like removing a limb.

If funds were needed, Wilder Creek might have a bonanza with the many many cherry burls on their property.

Nice bowls again Scott.Good way to spend some time.I'm gonna guess from left to right black cherry,ash,and hackberry wood.

Wow!  Terrific work, and beautiful bowls!  I don't have a lathe, would have to try to do that by gouge and Scorp, and sanding if I could find a big enough burl.
