I would like to see everyone's 2 piece take-down systems. I have a couple billets I may tear into a later this year. Thanks in advance
-
The best bet is to bye one, you can get one from echo archery, the owner Carson is a member here

I've posted this before and it doesn't have a proper coupling, but it works. Its also cheap and easy.
4 1/2" metal conduit, 1" wide, slightly compressed into an oval shape.
-
is that oval enough to stop the limbs turning inside the tube?...it looks almost circular!!
-
My money is on the sleeve from Echo as well.
-
I have broken a lot of bows, just didn't save photos of them! >:D
Call them "inadvertent and inconvenient take-downs".
-
Here's how I do it
-
The glass/carbon sleeve is pretty popular as an easily done option with less fitting required.

If you want a how to big jims bows has a how to on you tube

Dragonman, twisting hasn't been much of a problem, I've made several this way, some oval tube some regular. I glue the bottom limb into the sleeve and if the other limb has any play a small piece of tape on the tyne will keep it snug. A 1" tube is enough handle for a #50 bow if you use a wood like osage.
-
I do it just like Hrothgar, except I cut the butt ends at an angle, maybe 30 degrees, so they overlap in the middle, and don't turn, but about 3/4" of each piece is full round thickness.
-
square or rectangle stock works great, too. You can glue on leather or wood slats to round out and shape the handle.
-
Hrothgar, how thick is A1 tube ( wall thickness) in inches or mmms ? thanks

I use a bow bolt in mine. If I remember I will put a pic on later.

Do you remember what PA issue that was in?

brice here's a how to glass sleeve
-
Dragonman, the walls aren't very thick, if you can scroll over the pix I posted that's pretty much to scale--maybe the width of 7 or 8 tightly pressed sheets of notebook paper.
PM sent.

Did this one a while ago. Its an FG handle. My first, easy to do but you must do a precise job on the billet ends for the handle any major differences between the 2 pieces and you will struggle fitting the handle.
I used release on both pieces so I could gauge a better fit in the end. I would think the fiberglass handle to be lighter.
Challenge yourself ;) after all what is life without a challenge. Boredom will set in... >:D

Would you have to worry about the wood inner handle deteriorating from take down use with just the single sleeve (talking about the first picture posted). Also how long would the handle have to be to make such a joint safe?
