I couldnt avoid it so I set it dead center. Its 11.5" away from the tips on a 68" bow 45@28. The knot section is 2" wide.
-
On a 2" wide bow that knot is tiny, I would not even sweat it, seems you have left enough wood as the grain meanders around the knot like a river around rocks. Just like you should have. Chill out and get that sucker shooting. :) :) :)

Allow me to restate

A super soak-er full of super glue and a decent backing? It looks like you'd still have a 1/2" on either side of the cluster give or take. I'd say it's more likely to survive than not, er ah... knot. No risk no fun right?
What's the other side look like?
-
I don't think its a big deal sleek i had an area like that about 8" from the tip and i made a static out of it
-
When in doubt, rawhide
-
I would get going on those perfect staves you have.

I would get going on those perfect staves you have.
I have. I made one already and started another today. Will do another next weekend start to finish for the build along that was mentioned. I I have 3 more standing by waiting to be debarked and ring chased. After that, they sit and wait for inspiration.
-
I'd fill that cluster of pins with super glue, get another back ring taking care around these pins and start reducing the belly. Leave that area a little stiffer than the rest of the limb.
-
I'm with Pat on the straight staves, ok just kidding, but I am with Pat on going down a ring or two and being real careful about the pins,, if you have enough wood to permit,, at that point I really think you gonna be ok,,, as stated probably ok as is,, just saying what I would do cause I have" bowyers paranoia syndrom" :)

Same as PatB said. Pappy

I broke out my wood gouge set and set to work. Solid ring and super glue. Hope it holds.
-
Gonna be a eye-catching limb.
-
I hope not, but I will be sure to wear safety glasses.

Oh crap, I think the knots are going to be the least of your worries.
That is going to be one interesting bow.
-
Naw, the knots were the problem. That limb twist aint nuthin.
-
The knots aren't your problem. That sharp snake is the threat. The snake closest to the knot cluster is fine. The one below it is gonna be the problem. If the snake bend is about 45 degrees to the limb or greater, the stress is across the grain as it bends. It'll more than likely split out and blow there long before the knots have a chance to cause any problem. Josh
-
oh man, thats snakey. out of curiosity whats the other limb look like?
-
The snake closest to the center, that sharp bend, is where I put the fade for that exact reason. The left side of the limb inside the snake, is going to be thicker than the right side to prevent the limb twist from torque and it should hold.
-
The other limb is only half as bad. But with no knots. I haven't cleaned it up yet. I will tomorrow and post pics of it. Hope to get my take down sleeve by Wednesday and finish it Thursday to shoot at Eric's Saturday.
-
Time will tell. Good luck on it. The belly side of that knot cluster will sure look pretty with some finish on it. Josh
-
I hope it holds. Been dreaming and thinking about this build for many moons.

Thinking hard about trimmin at. The pencil line. I just feel the limb is too massive to perform well. I can split it rigjt betwwen the cluster and the one knot off to the left doing its own little thing over there. Seems counter to intelligence to make it more narrow when im worried about stressing it, but its soooo fat right there, its making tje limb above and below it too wide also. I have built a bow once that was wide like this. Complete dog, and handshock. dont want more of that.
-
You remember that conversation a few days ago about snakey limbs being less efficient? That stave will definitely test out the theory. Live on the edge, man.
-
Yes I read and remember that one. I believe the closer to the handle the snake is, the less it matters in mass. Only towards the tips does mass really come into play and as we narrow our tips very much, and snake torwards the tips is usually not very pronounced, I think it makes less of a difference than it would if we just slightly over built a regular bow.

Gonna shorten it up some in the handle by 6".
-
could you just wrap that snakey part just in case,,please
-
That will be cool if it works out, look to me like the snake on the right just out of the fad area is a little narrower than the outer part of the limb, may just be the picture but if it truly is that may be a problem. Love snaky bows but they can be a pain sometimes. :)
