I have a pretty nice arrow collection going and I need a way to display them. Does anyone have any ideas? Pictures would be a great help. I have a bunch of 1x lumber to use. I'm open to using natural materials as well. Thanks for any help.
-
No ideas. But, I need one too. I want to follow this thread.

How about something like this but narrower and staggered slightly so your arrows are angled and the head and feathers hang over each end. Also without drawers and maybe some deer leather with hair instead of the green felt and more slots to hold more arrows.

I also think some deer feet type mounts staggered slightly would look good as would turkey feet but that would take a lot of feet depending on how many arrows. Hope this gives some ideas.

Clint, this is a simple arrow rack I made fto display a few primitive arrows. My next one will have 2 uprights for better arrow support. The clips that hold the arrows are metal fuse clips for 12v electrical systems but small dowels set into the uprights will do just as well. Maybe Art Butner will post pics of his very cool arrow rack. Chris Cade made one like it too.

Lost a lot of my pics due to a computer crash, so I looked up Chris Cade's copy of mine. He used the clips which worked great. Here's that link http://leatherwall.bowsite.com/TF/lw/thread2.cfm?threadid=212976&category=88#2794145

Art, I got my arrow clips from Chris.
One of these days I'll make one of these arrow racks.

I like cases that hang on the wall, with or without glass front doors. If I ever get around to making some decent arrows that is what I'll do. I found the cases all the time on craigslist while looking for larger bow cases. Sometimes they are spice racks or intended for some other purpose but you would have to modify them a little.
Or a case that sits on a table.

Here's one I made
-
I don't have a photo yet but maybe this helps. I used pine 1X2 . You can make it any lenght you want. I wanted a rack that mounts to the wall so it does not flop everywhere. I basically screwed it together and drilled the 2 top pieces.

Not to hijack your post Clint.....
But Pat, there's got to be a good story behind that banana shaped arrow in your rack, will you share it?
DBar
-
Thanks guys! Keep the ideas coming :)
-
Clint................. how many arrow do you plan on displaying?
-
DBar, gravity. I recently turned it over so it would straighten itself out. ;D Having just a single mounting point causes undo stress on the arrow because of the effects of gravity on both ends. Some of these arrows go way back to my early days with primitive archery and all are from friends from across the country. 8)

Pat, what century was that? just pulling your chain. Very nice collection. I need a rack too. Got my all over the place, mostly on top of pictures and plaques hanging on the wall. BDan
-
Clint, I like Pat's and Chris's. Maybe we can get together and build some. Even shoot a little, haven't been to Rising Sun in a while. I'll be at Friendship through the week. maybe we can hookup. PM me your Phone #. and I'll call you. How's Tommy Hale doing. BDan

Clint I saw somewhere a rack made from one of those fluorescent light covers that was about 3/8 squares.
-
Hopefully this pic helps........

I had seen one not too long ago that looked really cool, too bad I don't have pictures, it was a shield type shape that incorporated a shelf for a bow or two, had room for a dozen.holes drilled into top surface of shield for a dozen arrows fanned out, looked pretty easy as long as points not too big, only downside is you couldn't see the points
-
Somewhat like this is pretty cool. Hopefully I don't have problems wither the pic

southpaw4 that rack is gorgeous! simple yet elegant... i have a cardboard tube i stuff my arrows into with a piece of plywood and nails on the bottom. works to hold arrows while i target shoot but no where in the realm of that sweet set up!
-
OOOOOOooooo..... I like it. Consider this design stolen ;)

The other day I was making some arrows and after sealing the sinew I needed a place to set them. I picked up two pcs. of red osier I had cut off the ends earlier in the weeks and used them to lay the arrows across while they dried. Then I got the idea...why not make an arrow rack out of the same material I'm making the arrows out of. The bark was still on the osier and it looked real cool, so...that is my project for the winter, an osier arrow rack similar to PatB's, but maybe with a center support as well.
Beautiful rack you have there southpaw!!

SouthPaw, I think I steel some of the idea of that rack. 'cept I'll do a turkey silhouette with the arrows as the tail feathers.

Are you going to hang the bows from the turkey's antlers? ;D

of course, it will the elusive TURKALOPE. ;D Actually, I didn't realize the antlers were bow racks. No prob, I'll use turkey feet for the bow rack. ;)

Sounds like a tasty critter to me!

Hehe, turkalope. Heck I wish that rack was mine.better believe when i get time to make one it will look something like this one. Beauty is you can change it up pretty easily it looks like

Holds two dozen in compact design and no holes to thread the shafts through.

Good idea I like it Davesea. Quite a bit of drilling to make it and use more material, just my 2 cents worth.
-
I like to show points up. Eventually I'll have a rack of different point styles and materials.

Hey Clint
The same volume of Popular Mechanics do it yourself encyclopedia (1955)that has that cool bandsaw from pluming parts ! Has a cool case for caring archery gear , holds 2 doz arrows and all the other goodies !!It would go well with to the bench you made !
Wish I knew how to find it on line for you !
-
Was it called an Asherum(sp), Guy? They were popular during Victorian times and was named for Roger Asherum.

Bow101, it requires drilling 24 holes for 24 arrows. Then rip through middle of holes to make the top and bottom half circle holders. I can calculate the square inches of material used if you would do the same and we can compare.
-
Pat
They just referred to them as "archers kit" , I knew there had to be a different name for them ! Thanks for letting me know it !
-
In Maurice Thompson's book "The Witchery of Archery" they call what PatB is talking about an "Ascham" and it is used like a gun case. but for your bow and tackle. Is this the same thing that you are talking about Guy? dp
-
Bowtarist
Yes it is a carry case for all the goodies except the bow !

I allready figured out, rip through the middle part; But it looks like the bottom has divets in it..?

Ya, bottom has divots so that would require some drilling.
