this piece definitely had a serious pucker factor to it. raw Texas rock i received from cowboy . got it down to a half inch thick with the hammerstone and then went to the punch to finish up. one pass along the edge with a tine to remove deltas. 8 1/4" long, 2 3/8th" wide, .290" or 7.4mm thick. symmetry is off but im happy it stayed in one piece.

8) Great work. I think I break those long blades on purpose because I can't stand the stress!

Nice work Jamie! 8)
I had that pucker factor going strong this morning on a 7" Dalton wannabe.....That factor soon left and turned into something else. :'(
-
How in the heck do you guys work that stuff raw?! :o I can't do much of anything with it.
That is nice Jamie! I would have had about three to four pieces after I got the basic shape. :P

Takes a lot of nerve to hit one that size. Looking good. I can't wait to get a piece of flint that size to work on.
-
Jamie, lookin real good on some tuff material, I have a few pcs of the raw dull gray sandy feelin rock from Cowboy an I can stack it real quick if I ease off an wimp hit it
-
WOW! ;D
-
thanks guys. got a buddy who wants to take it pig hunting. its overkill but if he wants to get that close and stick it in a pig i'll haft it up for him.
-
That is some steppy stuff ain't it Jamie? I haven't tried to cook any of that particular stuff yet but will. And tell him to stick that pig ;).
-
Awesome...I was with a friend walking the Ohio River banks in WV years ago and I walked past a 9 1/2 inch point that my buddy spotted. He had it looked at and was told it was a Turkey Tail point from Texas. It was a brown looking rock and was beautiful. The shape was exactly like your point except for the small notching near the base.
Well done Jamie!
-
Jamie, you do impressive work!
-
Great work as always! :)
-
Very nice. I have always wanted but never attempted to knap a Solutrean blade! Well Done! Sorry I haven't posted much lately I'm moving & been too busy to knap. Again well done on the blade!
-
thank you. im very tempted to push this blade under a 1/4" thickness. its in my truck and everytime i see it i want to thin it. need to start on another and give this one over to the pig hunter. have one decent piece of root beer left i think i can get a 9" blade from .
-

Man you cleaned that thing right up Jamie! Thinned, straightened, cleaned up the face. Like your tool kit. You are a true caveman ;).
-
Outstanding!
-
thanks guys. looks like it may end up in a pig. talked to the guy last nite and he's jonesing to have it hafted up. just talked to another guy about getting some onondaga and asked for a piece i can get a 10" blade from. he's gonna look at what he has and if he has it im gonna go for a bigger one. tried to get a piece from rootbeer and there was too much cortex on it. the rootbeer one is gonna be my next try at a cumberland. need to get back to that project.
-
WOW! Looking VERY nice, Jamie! 8)
-
Dang Jamie, I saw What you did over on PP and thought.....Now if I would try that,I'd have at the very least...two pieces! :'(
Nicely done.
So...Why did you quit at a 1/4"? :-X
-
That is outstanding, Jamie. Tell your friend you are sending it to me and I'll get pig blood on it for him. We're going after them this weekend in Ga.
-
thanks. tim i'll make sure the next one is 3/16th :o
eddie if he doesnt plan on going for a while ill send it to ya. if he is, the next one is yours.
-
:o ;D
-
The one bone still looks like it has meat scraps on it. You can't get much more ABO than that! Damn impressive results.
-
That looks really great. I hope to do that someday. Outstanding can't believe how you took the curve out of that blade. It would have been cool to watch you do that.
-
By God, that's just cool, Jamie. Awesome piece.
-
When you first posted, I typed in somthing like "you need to smack it twice and get those humps off" but I didn't post it because if you tried and broke it, I would have felt guilty. I am really impressed with the first version, the second is outstanding. Bill
-
Very impresive Jamie!
-
thanks again everybody. bill im really trying not to care that much about symetry and stuff but it keeps drawing me back in. i want my pieces to look more ancient with the twists and bumps. this piece was screaming at me to clean it up.
