Whole chicken slow-roasted on the grill with a can of beer up it's hindermost orifice, rubbed with butter and spice mix and basted with butter, garlic and lime juice; grilled asparagus, homemade potato wedges, and some toasted honey wheat bread with butter. It ate pretty good. ;D

now that made my mouth water!
-
Ooooh, I knew you'd come up with something spicy ;D. I figured out why they called it a drunk chicken the one time I tried it cause I was three sheets to the wind by the time it got done - think we may have had the fire turned down a little too low ::). Good looking vittles! Lets try it in a coupla weeks...
-
I knew you were going to do this. :P All I had was Snow Crabs with Big "Ahh Shrimp" and Salad
-
Paul, you have to be sure to keep yourself marinated with beer for the whole time the chicken's cooking so that you can be one with the chicken and sense when it's done. ;D
Eddie, that sounds good. I made some shrimp scampi with bacon-and-onion taters last night.
-
Heheheh, I've been one with something here for awhile now but it wasnt' chicken :D. That is making me hungry though, may have a slice of this hotel pizza.
-
Hey Paul, I hope you are keeping it basted. :D

Ron, they're just starting to come up. That's hopefully a near-future "what's for supper" thread- trout, ramps, morel mushrooms, and skillet cornbread. ;D ;D

how can you fry up a mess of taters like that and not throw an onion in amongst them?? :'(
-
Cause I had taters with bacon and onions Saturday night. Tina cooked these tater wedges while I did the chicken and 'sparagus. They were gooooood. :)
-
Steve I've been eatin ramps for two weeks up here.
-
Excuse the dumb question guys, but what are 'ramps' ??? It is not a phrase that I'm familiar with on this side of the pond :-[
-
bob,no worries.
i dont know what they are talking about either, and i live in the same country as them.
only differance is our geographical location, they are south and i am north.
so what are the "ramps" ya'll are refering to?

Just had a mess of dandelion greens with hot bacon dressing. Going out to pick more.
-
I've lived in 3 different parts of the country and never heard of them. Grunt- is it just the green part around the dandelion? Does it taste like collards?
-
Ramps are wild leeks. Has the taste of onion and garlic.

You got to get the whole plant BEFORE the flowers open. Reach down under and cut the tap root. Clean them good and cut the root off. I chop them a bit and then dump them in a hot cast iron skillet that has chopped and already browned bacon pieces. Splash a little wine vinegar on them and salt and chow down on a wilted salad. The unopened buds are kind of like capers. Good spring tonic
-
I live farther South than they do and we don't have Ramps or Dandelions. We do have onions, collards, mustard and turnip greens, though. ;D
-
This would be a good time for a picture. I know what dandelions are but am a little gray on the ramps...

Ahh, ramps, sweet nectar of the gods. I can't believe that there are poor folks out there who have never had ramps. They're a wild plant (Allium tricoccum) that grows in the higher elevations of the mountains here and through much of the northern US. Think green onions on steroids. A good mess of ramps or three in the spring is an absolute neccesity. They even have a big ramp festival in a town near here every May. Some people say they smell bad, but those are uneducated people who just don't know any better. ;D

Will be mid May before the leeks are ready here :(

Going down into our spring hollow to pick a mess of ramps. I like them with salt and pepper and a little butter.
