Excuse the dumb question guys, but what are 'ramps' ???  It is not a phrase that I'm familiar with on this side of the pond  :-[
"The Englishman takes great pride in his liberty. He values this gift more than all the joys of life, and would sacrifice everything to retain it. The populace would have you understand there is no country in the world where such perfect freedom can be enjoyed, as in England!" Frenchman, London 1719

I've lived in 3 different parts of the country and never heard of them. Grunt- is it just the green part around the dandelion?  Does it taste like collards?

Ramps are wild leeks. Has the taste of onion and garlic.

You got to get the whole plant BEFORE the flowers open.  Reach down under and cut the tap root. Clean them good and cut the root off. I chop them a bit and then dump them in a hot cast iron skillet that has chopped and already browned bacon pieces. Splash a little wine vinegar on them and salt and chow down on a wilted salad. The unopened buds are kind of like capers. Good spring tonic

I live farther South than they do and we don't have Ramps or Dandelions. We do have onions, collards, mustard and turnip greens, though. ;D

This would be a good time for a picture. I know what dandelions are but am a little gray on the ramps...

Ahh, ramps, sweet nectar of the gods. I can't believe that there are poor folks out there who have never had ramps. They're a wild plant (Allium tricoccum) that grows in the higher elevations of the mountains here and through much of the northern US. Think green onions on steroids. A good mess of ramps or three in the spring is an absolute neccesity. They even have a big ramp festival in a town near here every May. Some people say they smell bad, but those are uneducated people who just don't know any better. ;D
