Reflex Deflex Osage!!!
« on: November 19, 2008, 11:03:35 pm »
Hey folks! Wow, its good to be back here on PA! Haven't been around much for the past year or so in fact this is the first bow I have built in over a year. What was I thinking!
This bow was like a breath of fresh air to me, best therapy in the world. I am pretty happy with the way it turned out, although I was pretty doubtful of my tillering skills after not seeing a bow bend for quite awhile. Speaking of tillering, it was quite a challenge with all the dips, twists knots and of course the reflex/deflex profile that I induced with dry heat. I love the r/d profile,it is not only attractive but shoots super speedy. And this bow is no exception, I was pretty surprised by its ability to slam an arrow into the target with authority. When I began tillering the tips were exactly 2" in front of the handle. After a bit of belly toasting and shooting it a bunch, the limbs are even with the handle when first unstrung and when relaxed completely are resting in front the of the handle a bit. I'll take that set over the 4" I used to get when I started making bows.
It's dimensions are 1 3/8 at the fades then tapering gradually to the 3/8" nocks. 54# @25". 60" nock to nock. Limbs are Asymmetrical.
The stain is brown and yellow aniline dye fading in to each other in different spots and I also distressed the stain with fine steel wool also. The finish is satin spar urethane.
 Thanks for looking. Justin ;D

Thank you! The handle is X stitched with brown b-50 bowstring. The Hemp would be a good choice also.

Very nice bow Justin, I really like it when the natural dips and dives are left in the bow. Adds character.

Sweet looking bow Justin, the dye job almost makes it look like aged osage.

Great looking bow. Probably the best-shooting bow I ever made was an osage almost identical to that one in shape and character. Nice work.

Thanks guys!  When I finally got to shoot this bow I was in my garage at about 5 yards and couldn't tell its performance. Once I got outside stepped back a bit I couldn't believe how flat it shot. I have made quite a few BBO's glued up in the R/D shape but never a selfbow.
