New knapping
« on: October 31, 2008, 01:46:20 am »
Heres some knapping i did tonite.  It is my first ever knife and a smallish pink chert point.  I really like the way both of these turned out.  It probably the best knapping i have done.  I managed to remove some good flakes and get the knife pretty sharp and with the point i managed to remove flakes all the way accross it.  It legal hunting size and its really sharp so maybe i could use it someday.  Its the sharpest point Ive made.  I was happy with the way these both turned out.  I do wish i could take a better picture though.  THe picture doesnt show much

Looks like you're starting to figure it out. Sharp edges are what you're after-everything else is eye candy. :)

Good looking tools! Gotta wear some eye protection. I got a glass chip in my eye last weekend and it took about a 1/2 hour to get out. I had my safety glasses on........ the top of my head :-[. Keep at it.

Good looking rocks there.  I like the built in guard on the knife.  It may come in handy if it is covered in deer blood and slippery.

I wish someday i can pick up a nodule and end up with a nice, thin, shaving sharp, oint or blade
