Feather grinder[Dana]

but I know how tight you are and you don't like easy anyway.

Dana, I just use two 10" pieces of 1x pine boards duct taped together on one side for a hinge, and one squeeze clamp to hold the feather in place.....works fine for me.

Dana- I made one really similar to Pappy's.  The only difference that I see is that my clamp is two pieces of metal yard stick.  I screwed these to the blocks and let them hang out for about 3/4 of an inch.  I don't know if it would hold the feather under enough pressure to use a drum sander.  I cut the quill, then put the feather in the clamp.  Then use a small block plane to get most of the remaining quill off.  Then 80 grit to the desired thickness.

I used a old fletching clamp and a belt sander for a long time that did fine.I will say this
rig is pretty slick tho ,if you do a lot of feathers. The drum sander has a wheel on the bottom
so you can't go to far,you just grind till it quits cutting.
