Jape.....you anywheres near  Walcha, New South Wales ? I got a good mate there named Grahame Bray....he's supposed to be sending me some Aussie Hardwoods.....said they are good Bow woods....cant recall the Name now....but there have been Bows posted here made from it....maybe Manny remembers......
As a species we're fundamentally insane. Put more than two of us in a room, we pick sides and start dreaming up ways to kill one another. Why do you think we invented politics and religion.

That is one great looking primitive weapon. Super full draw shot, too. We'll look at it very seriously for June Self Bow of the Month coming up!

Manny, you are an incredible bowyer. ;) I like seeing people take unknow wood and experimenting to see what is possible. And then to be able to produce an unbacked bow with little or no set and profile like that is outstanding. Congratulations.   Keenan

Just a thousand Km away ... bowmakers like Graeme know the aussie eucalypts well, some species are as good as or better than osage or yew but the trouble with them is that one tree varies such a lot from another grown just a few yards away, very dependant on growing conditions. I have made a couple of sapling bows that worked OK (to very basic standards) but I am not good at tillering yet. I have a dozen staves drying slowly and would happily send free staves to people but the costs of posting them internationally are as much or more as the bows themselves, hundreds of dollars each, seriously.

Don't think I'll take this one (or any the bows I've being making lately ) hunting any time soon, they are way to lite for what I like to shoot nowadays, I'm getting an all bunch of bows ready for when I get old :D :D

waiting for Thimo's 90 #er to get here, and hunt with it  ;D

i understand Manny, only on a much smaller scale. i was hunting with a 45 pound recurve for the longest time. then i started making 55-60lb bows, and i know the 45 pounder will do the job and all, but i just have more confidence with the higher weight.

yeah that bow of Thimo's looks like a SCREAMMER!! :o

I few pictures of the building process

the original reflex

Reflex after working her at 22".......as you can see the finished bow hardly took ant set

The shooting in process was quite nerve wracking not knowing if the wood would just blow.

necessary equipment :

6 arrows marked at 20" and 27" to monitor increse in draw

shooting glove

bracer

goggles ;D

...and big waves surfing helmet  ;D ;D

crash test dummy
