EUCALYPTUS longbow ...(pics)
« on: June 27, 2008, 05:56:03 pm »
This is a Eucalyptus bow I just finished.

67 1/2" ntn, 57 # @ 27", assymetrical limbs with 3/16" positive, the Guava overlays look more like Osage ;D, finished the bow with a homemade finish that I just mixed a few days ago, the handle and the wraps are cotton.

I was very nervous tillering this bow for the fear of it exploding, but it tuned out to be a very good one, took very little set and the string is really tigth at brace.

I'll be cutting more of this wood  ;D ;D

What did you do, stand up under a ceiling fan! :o ;D ..or just got a summer buzz cut?   Nice bow, Manny and the color of the wood is nice also. The guava overlays do look like osage.      Pat

Cant hope for better than that with a wood you are unsure of.  I love the overlays. I havent seen osage with that beautiful two tone color.

I love the hair cut. Well it might be a little long for my taste.  ;D  Justin

Thanks guys.

yep this is quite a nice bowood and beautifull to boot.

actually my hair has being like this for almost 6 months now, but I finally got to take picture with the selftimer so I don't have to take them shitty ones from the tree >:D

The tree behind me is a BAYON (Ficus ) if left alone this trees get as big as houses, by dropping roots from the limbs.

Hi Manny
Looks like you finally found the correct one out of the 600.
Very nice bow with great tiller for a wiggly stave. Time to try some different designs.
If you are collecting more of the same timber try to get the largest dia you can
as this usually gives the best results.

Manny, That looks great, I was hoping it would make it since I still vividly remember how loud that wood is when it explodes :o :D

That is some fine wood still holding that reflex like it does..
