D bow handle
« on: June 19, 2025, 12:10:32 pm »
I just posted about have come across some guava logs and while splitting the logs I had a couple staves where they would be to short for a stiff handle bow. Usually i would just out these off somewhere and most likely forget about them.

I like bows with built up handles cause i love an arrow shelf and just the overall aesthetics.

For a bendy handle bow what can i do to build the hand area up while not hindering the handle from bending. I was wondering if anyone has pictures that they can share to get some inspiration.

It does not need to have an arrow shelf btw. I remember Gordons Hazel bow build but i cant remember if that was a bent through the handle bow.

I can't help with the grip area build up, but another thing to consider with these short staves is splicing two together to make a long enough bow for your preferred stiff handle design.

I have used cork on bows that flex/give just a bit. Glue on a couple of sheets/thin layers and shape it until it feels comfy.
