Jujube Wood for Bows
« on: April 27, 2025, 08:19:20 pm »
Hello does anyone have experience with jujube as a bow wood. I can’t seem to find any resources online for jujube. I want to cut a jujube tree down but don’t know how to seal it or whether this wood even works for bows.

Most fruit woods are OK for bows, I remember seeing some Jujube trees in a diverse orchard on a government test farm in east Tn. when I was a youngster, we ate the fruit.

Like you I couldn't find any chart that had the specific gravity for this wood, it won't hurt to try it for bow making, it may or may not work for bows but at least you will know.

I never heard of a Jujube tree before. Agree with Eric, I can't think of a fruit or nut tree that won't make a decent bow.

I would cut it, split it into quarters, seal the ends. If you take the bark off I'd seal the back with a couple of coats of PVA, as dense fruit woods will check badly if left unsealed.
