Retired now, I was an electronics design engineer, but I've always dabbled in mechanics, as in this little story:-
In my last job I designed a pressed steel part for a peristaltic pump, my boss complained that the press tool to manufacture it was too expensive (just a couple of hundred $). So I said, that's ok, I'll pay for it ... if you pay me a few cents royalty on each part we use 
He soon shut up and paid for it!

I salute you and then take my hat off to you and your engineering mind, not only thinking about these things but actually making working models of them.    Way cool!
