New willow quiver
« on: July 24, 2023, 03:33:29 am »
I don't post here much or usually  post unfinished work.
We're getting heavy into  weaving
Lady asked me what we should weave next
I've always wanted to produce nice quivers ever since I started trad archery over 10 years ago. She's into archery too and our first dates were making bows

Just got excited as it's basically done, need to work on some leather for it
This thing no joke will last 100 years + even if you're rough with it
Stands nicely
It's our first one I plan on making a bunch. Going to add at least once nice pouch on the lower quarter, straps for over the shoulder and hip carry
Any other suggestions ?

My favorite part about the weaving is the two patterns we call "deer tracks" with the colorful "zigzag" in between
This is a prototype

Forgot to mention another cool note; the red willow is from my marshy hunting spot where I chase bucks around all winter

Very nice woven quiver. I especially like the different weaving patterns.

Oh man, I LOVE that!

Keep posting pics as you work on these. I might be interested in a trade for one.

I like it alot !
I made a couple of them and here are my comments:
- Arrows tend to rattle unless you put something both at the very bottom and at the opening.
Moss works well for the bottom and fur of fabric or leather for the opening
- another reason to pad the opening is to prevent the feathers being ruined by the weaving
- they are good quivers but they are quite stiff and tend to be more noisy then leather when you hit something and while retrieving the arrows. You have to pay more attention while you go out hunting.

I planned to weave one with a elongated rectangle base but still have to do it

Maybe in the next one try also a side quiver with a slot open on the top side to easily extract arrows  :OK
