Point found in SWFL
« on: February 18, 2023, 09:15:06 am »
Meant to post this the other week.  Friend took her daughter to the beach the other week and found this just laying there.  They sent me pictures straight away trying to get information.  What a find!
Looks like Alafia coral.

I imagine after the storm and with all the dredging, etc. the bottom offshore got turned up.  Cool to think what is out there from when ocean levels were lower.

Nice looks like a archaic stem point. Could it be made from a fossil?
It's a good find that's for sure. The beach was 50 miles further away during the ice age here on the central Fla west  coast

That chert looks like some you can find on Honeymoon Island and around the Weeki Wachee area.
