Started a bow finally after 4 year lay off
« on: December 08, 2022, 02:01:21 pm »
I was cleaning out my she yesterday and I noticed a stave in the corner I had forgotten about. I had planned on splitting into billets and splicing it as it was only 52" long. I kept glancing over at it and next thing I know I had in my hands. I started off I was just going to clean it up and see how it looked. I ended up spending the rest of the day on it. I decided on a 52" recurve 4" backset with a stiff handle, no deflex. Going for 50# @ 24". I need to let it sit for a couple of days because of the steaming. I will attach a pic when I take the clamps off of the nock overlays.

Our stories are similar, Steve. My lay off was closer to 3 years. Its started with a pair of bumpy yew billets staring at me as I fletch some carbon arrows for an ILF bow I shoot a lot. Next thing I know I'm in the basement going through moving boxes trying to find the few tools I needed to build a bow.

Enjoy your build.

It’s been almost a year for me now too.

I really like a bow like that Steve. That fits me really good. Id be interested to see how it does in flight compared with your 50 lb 27”

I have one I need to finish up from a stave Arvin sent me.

I like your bow shop to Arvin. Maybe I can make some shavings in it someday. Glad you are getting settled in.

This is great to see you building again!  You have had a huge influence in primitive archery and it is great to see you still at it.

Looks good for a start.  Should be a great bow!

Nice looking profile to begin with Steve.
I've had a half dozen prospect staves and roughed out bows in the house for over a year which should be dry by now too.

Good looking profile. Can’t wait to see how this one develops. I have some shorter staves I have been holding off on, trying to decide what to do with them. Glad to see you starting back on a new build.

Dropping a comment here so I can see follow up pics and descriptions!
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.
