Big fat stupid osage heavy bow

This was a project I've been itching to do for a while.  I've had this arbitrary goal of making and shooting a 100# bow for no other reason other than to see if I could, and 100 pounds seems like a fun number and I knew I would end up with a beastly stick at the end.  I consider this step 1 in the process.  Its not 100# but I did get my feet wet in tillering heavier bows.  This stave has suuuuper thin rings and really tested my ability in prepping the back.  I also discovered that I didn't really know how how many times you string and unstring a bow during the build until I made this monster.  All in good fun

It's a big fat pig whose own design and execution probably eats into the efficiency but that was never a huge concern of mine going in to this one.  I wanted to tackle a heavier draw and end up with a fun shooter and thats exactly what I got.  The outers are a little stiff, and the tiller could always be better but I got exactly what I wanted out of this build.

congrats...that's pretty cool.  You are actually very close to your goal as most "war bows" are tillered to and measured at 32".  Good job.

Tiller looks pretty good to me actually.  I agree that the Top limb from the full draw pics appears a tiny bit stiff in the outer limb compared to the lower.  Not something I would worry about changing.  Sounds like a fun build.  Congrats.    Love the name too funny stuff.

As for the tiller, if it ain't 100% perfect, then it's gotta be around 97%+...
...and that is really dern good (plus it looks great, too).

I think most of us get caught up in worrying about those last few percentage points, the handful of points that are preventing that elusive "perfect" tiller...and it also seems like each bowyer is their own harshest critic.

Ed I’m aware of  being able to spine an arrow to clear your bow and your knuckle. But by doing so you have robbed energy in the arrow. Yielding a less speed and cast . If you build your own arrows the bow with more center shot  and shelf will be more forgiving to the arrow maker and the archer. The guy that beats the shelf guy is just a better shot. Arvin

when I shoot through the chrono, I dont really see a difference in speed,,shelf or no shelf,, I have never heard of that so far,,,could be a good discussion on another thread,,,I prefer no shelf,, but have made bows for those that like it,,

That's just it Arvin.I too understand the less an arrow has to bend the less energy spent.My stiff handled bows are built close to center shot [within a 1/8" that is] without a shelf shooting off my knuckle.My arrows are spined to each of my bows equally to the poundage weight consistently.Most shooting same arrows off of multiple bows.I do have a string nock on them also.I do shoot more accurately consistently with a more center shot bow.
As Dave said quiet as a mouse when shot.
I've shot more than my fair share of bows through a chrono also.Against FG centershot bows with shelves that an FG bow maker here makes.His bows shoot nice and I think better than mass production made FG bows.
I personally see no difference the way I do it.Pound for pound my shelfless bows out shoot his FG bows.I do have a fair amount of reflex on my most of my bows though which I'm sure is the difference.I can't speak for others though.
