Machine/Tool/Welding

So im taking a machine tool welding class and i was working on my T-Welds on the arc welder today. I already got my beads done and my lap welding for the unit on Arc welding and let me say, i am actually really good at this (at least in my head!). I surprised my teacher with how fast i got the hang of it! I have MIG welded before and i have my Welding merit badge so i guess im not a complete newbie! hahaha! anyways, i wish i had more photos! but until i either dig out my old welds (which i probably will tomorrow) or i start my MIG welding unit, heres a picture of one of my passing T-welds!

You've got a CNC plasma, try it by hand

Our CNC is awaiting a much needed update to modern software. 

The arc welder is the electric one that spits wire out the front right?  That's what I used last fall and it was fun, though it did spatter.

I also got to use a CNC Lathe briefly, and I would kind of like to turn field tips on it.

Trad, plasma cutting by hand would be hard! Id probably end up accidentally putting holes in everything 

Arc welding is also called Stick welding, its the one where you hold the electrode stick and feed it by hand. Mig welding is fun and all but once i got used to arc welding, I realized i like it a lot more!

Im Just now finishing my work on the Metal lathe. We are making a hammer handle and next week I will be making a hammer head!

when you can weld its amazing how many friends you have...
learn to tig weld .
if you can tig weld stainless and aluminum you will always find work..
im in my 34th year of welding for a living..

That’s really good stuff.  I took a course here at the tech school some years back that gave an intro to the types.  I’ll do Mig work out back when need be.  Really respect the old school machinists  and people who can work a lathe.

Yea, lathe, hmmm ... Let's just say I prefer a mill.  The CNC lathe was nice, but I screwed up pretty badly cutting threads on a manual lathe in aluminum.

Has anyone noticed that aluminum is pretty much the balsa wood of metals?
