Here’s my entry for the bow trade, it  draws 70# at 26,” and  is made from a split stave of pignut hickory I cut here on the farm. It's 64" nock to nock and is stained with iron-vinegar and blue cornflowers. The tooled leather handle is cowhide, also stained with iron-vinegar and the arrow pass is beaver tail hide a friend gave me.

Tom wanted a bow in the 60 to 80 pound range at 26” and this one came out a bit above 70#. A little too much for me! Here’s some shooting, more of the bow, and some blunts going through pumpkins. https://youtu.be/_wtWgTv2HfI

This bow was made from the sister stave to this one. Both were unusually good pieces of hickory with fantastic latewood ratio, and made for pretty narrow hickory bows. Still the best hickory I’ve cut. https://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,68691.msg964158.html#msg964158

Congrats!
That's a mighty fine bow. Very good work, I really love the stain job - that looks too good!

Well done. I’m sure Tom is going to love it.

Like Simson. I also like the stain job. And the tiller looks really nice.

Hope ya like it! A PM with tracking info should be in your inbox.

The finish is beeswax, but lard would be fine if you like to use it. There’s shellac on the back and to seal the pores but otherwise it’s a simple oil and wax rubbed finish. There’s a drying check through the lower nock which of course I’ll fix if it causes issues, but it shouldn’t compromise any strength. I chose to keep it in rather than shorten the bow and possibly have to lower the draw weight.

Enjoy!

Thanks Simon! I first learned about iron-vinegar stain on your site and have spent a long time looking at your bows, trying in vain to absorb your style. I’m very glad you’re back at it!

Thanks for the kind words BJ, I’m sad to see this one go but to be honest I’m a little overbowed!

That's a great bow.  Simple and refined.  Stain IS very interesting and the details look well assembled.

Gotta love how organized your work space is.

Enjoyed the video. Thanks for posting.
As well, very clean looking bow. Just looks solid. I may one day make a 70# 'er.
