Osage recurve for LJ 44#/27” (No. 120)
« on: September 09, 2021, 05:33:53 am »
This was a super nice stave from dark osage, very dense wood. Nearly flawless, only some marginal pin knots. Bad thing was it was very crooked and twisted, so it needed some time and several sessions to bring it line and balance. At handle section an additionally ring allows a nicer curve and more comfort to grip.
She has string grooves for safety (prevent string slipping).
Tip overlays and arrow pass is a combo from buffalo horn and bone. Handle is stingray leather.

Mary Poppins bow right there...practically perfect in every way.

Your stingray handle is capturing my attention.  Is the seam of its wrap on the belly and what are you using as an adhesive?

That bow is really amazing. Beautiful profile and bend. I really like the shape of your fades with the center ridge line on the belly. Does that extend much beyond the fades?  Thanks for posting your work here!

Thanks folks, I really appreciate every comment!

Steve, the seem is on the belly ridge. It is glued on with TB 3 after soaking severeal hours (this leather is very tough!), wrapped with textile rubber strap. It was glued on with excess, before the glue was completely dry cut with a very sharp knife trough both leather overlapping, add some more glue at the seem area and wrap again. The result is a very good seem, near invisible.
PS: I have sanded a bit over the whole black leather to get the bone pearls a bit highlighted.
