Bamboo “tomato stakes” - what’s the cull rate?

I’ve been making these bamboo “tomato stake” arrows - a big thank you to Pat B for explaining where the node goes - but I have to say that when you get it right they fly like absolute darts.

I am thinking of ordering 500 canes. I was wondering what percentage of these will be usable and how you batch them...

Do you start with thickness, or spine or weight?

I’ve also been doing self nocks and picking the section of the shaft that matches the spine of the others ... and simply wrapping the nock. I haven’t plugged them or cut at a node. Haven’t had any issues.

I ordered 300 landscaper grade bamboo stakes.  I reckon maybe 20 percent were straight enough.  However, spine was all over the place.  Two identical shafts could range from 35# to 120#.  Probable 10 percent were really usable.

I've had pretty good results when buying bundles of 500, 8-9mm but in the past I was able to go through the bundles and pick which one I wanted.
