Snakey Black Locust Bow
« on: February 25, 2021, 03:25:22 pm »
The bow draws 30lbs at 28". The stave was full of character and had a bit of natural reflex. I already love this wood. It took nice darker color after meeting my heat gun. At rest the bow holds some reflex. The handle wrap is from natural leather, arrow rest is purple heart. It was my first black locust bow. Overall length is 66". The bow was finished just 2 months after harvesting.

All the best guys!

How did you season it in 2 months?

The tree was fallen Dec 2020, I bought it in the beginning of January. I split it and left in staves for 2 weeks. Then roughed the bow and took it home to warm place and kept it for another 2-3 weeks. I'm aware it's not properly seasoned but I wanted to try out this wood now when I have some time to work. So I picked up of the wonky staves. Got a plenty of this wood.

Ok thats what I did for my last BL bow: roughed it out then let it sit for 2 weeks in a warm room. It took very little set so I think this seasoning process worked well.

Sweet bow :)
As long as the wood hasn't been damaged getting it dry, the bow doesn't care how long the wood took to dry :)
