Everyones best/favorite bow!

I thought id't be fun if everyone posted there best or just there favorite bow and maybe a tiny bit about it like bow length, draw weight, and length. Or any other things your proud about it or cool materials you used !


my best bow I mad was for a friend. its hickory, 59" long bends threw the handle which is wrapped with sweet cherry bark, and built up arrow rest and handle with leather, and has osage tip overlays. I also lightly burned hickory leaves in, by the handle and tips. It draws 35@26" ( youve seen this bow before, I made it last summer)

Back in 2010 when I first started bow making I had no access to any wood other than red oak lumber. A guy on here graciously sent me a small 57” long 1.5” wide 7/16” hickory board.  I gave it my all and made my first hunting weight bow with that board.  A bendy handle pyramid.  I shot the crap out of it. The humid summer here and it having no finished causes it to take 2.75” of set.  I drew 45lb @ 26”

Last year I picked it up again and heat treated it in reflex and retillered it to my natural short 23-24 draw. It now draws 45lb @ 24” and unstrung is dead flat and after resting has 3/4” of reflex.  It’s my go to shooter.

What is your record Arvin? Was that bow a flight shooter?  Pity it broke.

That was my record bow. I was doing a stretch test on it when it blew at 28”. Ya that sucked.

I feel like with almost every new bow I get closer to achieving what I had in my mind when I started the build. This is the bow I always go back to when thinking about past bows. It was a hickory ambush bow I made trying to reignite the ambush bow trend. Felt like I really nailed the symmetry and tiller. The piece of wood was phenomenal with about 3 growth rings in the limbs. I ended up offering this one up for the raffle table at the TN Classic. An older woman won it and I always wonder what others would have thought of it.

Hickory, 58" ntn and 55#@28" after a 100 shot session. 4" handle with 1" fades, 2" wide at the fades with a convex taper to 3/8" nocks. Bloodwood and hickory overlays... after 500 shots it retains over 2" of reflex and after a 100 shot session it'll have 1" of reflex after unstringing, very quickly going back to those 2 inches.

Thanks guys. I can't remember how much. I think it was definitely over 3". Looking at the tiller now I think it could have tolerated a bit more bend near the fades which would have helped string angle as it was stacking a bit but probably also would have held less reflex overall.

My favorite bow always seems to be the one im working on at the time. Got a few awesome bows from swaps which is a great honor. But here's one I made for myself that turned out better than expected. 62"ntn  54 lb hickory. Used all natural stains and paints. A fun bow to shoot.

You make some of my favorite bows I’ve ever seen m2a..... I love the scallops ? (That’s what there called right?) and the simplicity. What stain/ paint did you use? I’m always looking for natural stains and paints.

Thanks Fox. Yes that's what they are called. Walnut hulls, dried bloodroot root are the main colors I use for most everything. They work well on white woods but blood root does not show up so good on locust or Osage. I have a piece of hickory 3 inches short of F/D right now. Hope to finish it up and shoot it in within the next 2 weeks. Maybe I can show process of the stains on a post here. Its simple.
