Ryan O'Sullivan's April Self Bow of the Month
« on: May 06, 2008, 02:29:58 pm »
Congratulations to Ryan O'Sullivan of Waterford, Pennsylvania
Your Black Locust Long Recurve
is April's Self Bow of the Month
Ryan describes the construction of this bow this way:
Here's a Black locust recurve I just finished up. Its 66" ntn 1 3/4" wide at the fades and straight tapers to 3/8" nocks. It was a bit of a character stave, not side to side, but front to back. It had three large bumps to deal with the center one I took advantage of and made a cool reverse style handle. The other two I tried to remove the best I could with heat. The one in the lower limb is now almost unnoticeble, the one in the top limb is more pronouced. It is backed with western diamond back rattle snake skins, and has a deer leather grip and deer antler tips. It pulls around 50#@28" I havent reweighed it since finshing it but its pretty close to 50#. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out, and I realy like the way it shoots. Hope you enjoy!

Thank you everyone! I saved this stave out of a pile of bl stave's I cut out of a friends yard for a few years because of the hump in the middle of it, I gave, sold, and traded away all the other stave's because I hadn't had much luck with black locust in the past. I  just held on to this one because I could see the bow in that stave that wanted to come out.  ;D
This has got to be one of the only bows of the month that several of you got to see and shoot before you voted.....it'd be nice if we all had that opportunity every month wouldn't it.....lol.  ::)
Its November, I'm gone hunt'in.......
