True, but I don't think either would go over well at band practice!  DC, I think it is the profile of the blade, both will do the job.  The Bowie usually has a more pronounced upward sweep to the tip, I think

Difference (usually and there are exceptions, lol!) are the blade shape and finger guard.

Bowie’s have a clip point style blade Which can be formed by grinding, cutting or beveling.  A seax has a sloping point formed by moving the material downward by cutting grinding or pounding...
Bowie’s have a pronounced guard which might even loop around to the tangs end forming a knuckle duster. While a seax has a minimal or no guard.

Clear as mud, right? ;)
