I am getting too old
« on: September 09, 2020, 04:28:01 pm »
I drove by a city road crew trimming trees on the road to the gym this morning, They had just cut a 3 trunk osage, nice straight trunks about 15" in diameter. I didn't stop and ask for the trunks, they would have given them to me, I kept driving. I must be getting too old, I would have never let these get away in the past.

I have enough wood but I have never let an available log go to waste, I collect them and give them away to my friends in town that aren't as astute at finding it as I am .

Here is my last salvage osage, more city road right away clearing. I gave most of it away.

I’m getting old to, but my wood stash isn’t near what you have from pictures posted in the past. I would love to have such a problem that I didn’t “need “ more. Especially if I didn’t have to cut them down and haul off all the brush.

I’d drive half way across the country for a haul like that!

Eric you need to build a pneumatic or hydraulic stave splitter. Either that or hire some dim witted guys to split it for you:)

Eric,
Well, old is at least 40 years older than I am ever going to be, and I got a couple more years on you!
Have to just chalk it up to a passing case of "Darn, that was Osage, I should have stopped and got it"!
Maybe, you didn't have your pickup truck!   Oops!  Brain fart!  My wood supply will get me through a few more bows, hopefully successfully!

If you knew how much that would sell for here in the UK you might have been tempted ;)
I've seen people asking £2000 for two logs like those.
If it was resawn well......you could double that.

It's like a needle in a haystack here. And near the road? AND somebody else cutting it down for me? I couldn't have driven past that. Especially if I was on my way to the gym for a workout anyway  :OK
Straight wood may make a better bow, but crooked wood makes a better bowyer

Amen George, more than one of us here feel the same way.

Eric, you're not getting older, unless the crew would have loaded it for me, I wouldn't have been able to handle on my own. Likely a good call on your part. Backs take a while to heal up. Especially for us "over 40 or so".
