Is this what I think it is but hope its not?

This is on the back of my Hickory bow. It won't catch a fingernail but still looks troubling enough to seek some expert advice before i shoot it anymore. It was gifted to me yesterday. I've shot it 4 times and then noticed it while sealing it with tru oil.

If the bow is tillered then you could run some thin cyano into the crack then wrap it

You could try what Del the Cat suggests.  I have done so with mixed results.  Unfortunately, this kind of surface cracking can be indicative of subsurface cracks.  That is, the surface crack extends further into the wood. Bummer!

I think the back isn't worth patching because the belly is also chrysalled .If it was either one fine, but not when it's both IMO

It's hanging on the rack, it goes pretty deep at brace. I'm surprised it even shot four times. Probably got broke during shipping.

That doesn't look like shipping damage to me.  There would be dents or other obvious signs of damage.  And shipping wouldn't likely cause compression fractures on the belly either.  Just my opinion from your pictures and information.

I don't see shots of chrysals on the belly.  The back looks gone though.  Looks like the wood may have some decay present.

That crack on the belly near the tip is most likely from an attempted heat bending. It looks like the kind of tension crack that can open on the belly when it doesn't go right. It's kind of a moot point since the back is failing. I sure wouldn't shoot it. sorry man.


EDIT: I take that back. It's diagonal which would mean it's a regular old chrysal. the tension cracks are straight across.
