35" Sinew Yew Bow - Tiller Check Help Please
« on: July 16, 2020, 10:40:59 am »
Hello,

I wonder if I could please ask for a bit of advice on the tillering here.

It's turning into a weird moustache shape bow.
I'll show the resting U-shape and then pushing it to try to get it near string-able brace height.

It's heavy to draw to this point and to me feels like it's just putting more bend into the spot with the yellow arrow. but I don't have a ton of experience with gauging when yew will chysal or collapse and I don't want to trim it down too much so it's a toothpick either.

I've tried to reduce the mid-outer limbs where it recurves so it doesn't hinge more at the spot where I drew a yellow arrow (as @ bownarra suggested) but not sure where to keep going from here.

*side by side with the photo from the museum bow, I can kind of see how my recurve pockets out or concentrates mid-limb, whereas the original has a lot more recurve built into and gradual throughout the whole centre grip area. Perhaps this is going to be the flaw or nail in the coffin here.
