Not bad time. It looks like your coming along good. It's a lot of work roughing them out.

I had to take a little time away to patch some drywall for the wifey. I slipped back outside while she took a nap and roughed out this little HHB stave. Hopefully I can get back to it tonight. I think there is more drywall work in my future.

Hi folks.
Started working on roughing out a hazel blank this afternoon.
I'm still a beginner, this should be my 5th working bow if all goes well.
I don't have much room for working inside, so I had to wait for nicer weather,
and the Virtual Bowmaking Festival was a good opportunity to get the gear out.
Just got close to floor tillering before dark!

Russell, Do you mean that the thickness from back to belly at the fades is 1/2" thick?

Working on a new heat treating caul because all my old ones warped. Gave me the chance to use my No. 5 jack plane which I just sharpened. Worked like a dream! You'd swear that pine was glass how smooth it was. Made a little jig for my heat gun too. Been jerry rigging my heat gun to a clamp for too long!     I can't remember who I copied this design from but it was someone at Marshall.

anyone have an answer to how thick my tips should be? It's 1/2" out of the fades and the bow is 64" with a 4" handle and 4" fades.

Edit: just saw your post Ryan. Yes. Sorry but in the pic the belly is still a bit crowned, working on removing that

Here’s another one for you Ryan. My cousin calls the sprayer a transformer. It folds out to 120’ wide. It’s really amazing how far equipment has come since I started farming. This stuff is 16 years old. The really new stuff is even more crazy. I didn’t ever use horses, but my dad did. Mr. Deere must just be amazed watching from wherever he is.

I had a lot better day today. Got a lot of stuff fixed and a bunch of work done. It’s always a struggle getting everything working.

Russell every piece of wood is different. Nothing wrong with starting out 1/2” thick. They probably will need more take off, but it’s really not something you can just measure. You need to take off enough that they bend.
