My leather bug bit me hard!

Hey guys, I've been gone for quite a while. Sure have missed everyone!

I have recently had quite the run of leather projects going.
I should first say, I'm not really a holster maker, but I guess I do a pretty good job at it.
Here is a few holsters I have made in recent weeks.

For those of you who don't know, these are called pancake style holsters. Just two pieces of leather pancaked together, well kinda.

First one is a glock 17 gen 4 holster. My wife bought the gun for me for my birthday back in December, it's a full size pistol so I couldn't carry it in my pocket.
All of the holsters are made out of mahogany bison leather. They are hand cut, punched, glued, and hand stitched with a stitching awl. This particular one is has a black suede liner in it. The decorative stiffener on the front if the holsters are an extra piece of bison with a thin piece of gator print leather that I was gifted to from hunterbob. The first one is finished with several coats of a mixture of beeswax and deer talo that I made and use on all my leather and for a patch lubricant in my muzzle loaders.

The second one is a holster that I made for a good friend of mine. It's for a SCCY cpx-2. This one has no liner in it and I finished it totally different. Once I was done making the holster the leather didn't seem to be stiff enough for what I was looking for. So I used a very old technique to stiffen the leather.

After I wet formed the leather I waxed it. You get the leather pretty hot and brush on melted beeswax until it wouldn't absorb any more. I concentrated on the gun area and not as many cotes on the belt loop area. Then wiped it down good, put the gun in and worked it in the leather some while it was hot. Then stuck it in the freezer until it was cold. Then once it came back to room temperature I rubbed it down with a beeswax and deer talo mix that I made for my leather stuff. Then melted it with a hair dryer and buffed the heck out of it. This made the leather very hard and tough. If you ever try this don't just wax it. That makes the leather very hard but brittle, alway add the beeswax and talo mixture to it.

Thanks Bob, but here's a few more. This one is my favorite little giant wheel gun. Taurus 5 shot 357 mag. I finished it the same way as the last one.

And last but not least the toughest project yet. A matching double magazine holster for my glock. It has the suede liner and is finished with the beeswax and talo mixture.
