Laburnum recurve

Hi,
After seeing my last donation of a bendy laburnum stave to my friend Leon Loef turning out so nice,  i set my mind on making a laburnum bow myself and searched for a fitting (less challenging  :BB) piece of would that would accomodate my attempt.  In March i was so lucky, and found a very nice tree.

Really love working with this stuff, although highly poisenous (take care of good mask!)
It bends relatively easy under heat and is a lively, springy material.
Most of all, the colors are so cool & impressive, i now understand why in older days these bows were usually gift bows for special occasions.

Anyway i think this experiment worked out fine, and I am looking foreward to my next build.

This one is 62" and draws 45lbs @28, hardwood arrow pass in the riser.

My next will be heavier, and hopefully my new daily shooter  (SH)

Real nice job my friend! Laburnum sure is one of the most beautiful bow woods out there! Excited to see what you make with the other staves! And thanks again for the stave you gave me, will probably build a reflex deflex out of that one next ;D

 (A)That bow looks mighty fine!  Beautiful texture on that wood!!

If you could drink that bow wood, it would be like a smoky single malt Islay scotch!

That's a beauty!  If I can offer an unsolicited critique, it might benefit from a little more bend near the fades.

Hi, probably true, however after first tillering and shooting some arrows it needed a little retiller. (sometimes wood does that to you   ::))
I didnt want to sacrifice much in drawweight, and so left it as is. Moreover this stave was more or less a test case, since i had never worked with laburnum before. Saved my beste stave for a new personal bow, and shared the remaining wealth with other bowyers.

If you could drink that wood, you would be dead... its poisenous wood 
But I do understand were you are coming from. wouldnt mind a nice scotch with such a color  (lol)

I'm not sure if there is a wood that looks better in a bow? all the examples I have seen are simply stunning and this one is carries on the high expectations.
I've heard people say that that sap wood is weak in tension, but after seeing yours and Leon's bows that doesn't seem to be the case?

Exactly the reason why I build a testbow of one lesser stave, before using the premium stave i kept.  From what I see in this one is that sapwood although somewhat porous stil quite strong.
Kept only 2 layers for contrast purpose.
Will most  certainly do this again in next one.
