European ash selfbow 40#@28"
« on: May 12, 2019, 06:52:16 am »
So here is my newest bow. Made from ash (Fraxinus excelsior) cut by me nearly 2 years ago. There is some heartwood left on handle. Bow is about 72" long and draws about 40# at 28". Great pleasure to work with this piece of wood. I applied leather grip and arrow-pass plate made from cow horn and yew heartwood.

I love the limbs  :) .
But, if I'm allowed to critique a little.... I can't imagine the square corners on the grip being comfortable in the hand :'(

Nice work. I agree with Del that the handle looks blocky. Having said that, refinement is an ongoing thing for me, and the handle area has always been challenging. Tiller looks pretty good!

Thanks for comments guys! I appreciate your straight opinions.
To be honest I am still learning and I like to have fun with various designs. In that case handle may be a bit blocky but I don't mind it and find it decently comfortable.

Love the character on it, not too much but still noticeable. I think you could make the tips shallower and it’d really make it more aesthetically pleasing.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts Ryan. I will consider it making next bow.
