Hi Guys!
Finally I forced myself behind the computer and became a member to PA forum, because i love Bows and making them more than Computers
.
I started archery 3 years ago with 2 glass bows; 1 re curve40#; 1D/R Longbow but l always wanted to make a bow myself.
So there was this huge wild cherry tree (70 cm diameter!) which shadowed the hole garden and had to cut some years ago. I fired all of it
and left one piece to make a stool and one big Brunch for a bow.
In Spring 2017 my Dad died and I needed to distract myself and so I found its time to give the wooden self bow a try.
I splitted the brunch and i got 3 pieces where probably a bow is in.
the first stave was pulling about 25# had a triangular cross section and broke in front of my mum
the second was very narrow, i put a flaxbacking on it and it exploded in 7 pieces
the third had a hole in the handle area and I discovered some little borer holes by removing some sapwood
.
Meanwhile a neighbour borrowed me TBB2 and I understood much more
I discovered PA much later but wanna thank you autors of TBB and PA members for showing how its done.
Back to black holes:
During tillering it cracked right at the borers hole. So superglue, rawhide backing and tapering the sides where my solution( I didn't taper the borer spot and wrapped it instead after finishing tillering)
I really didn't wanted to end up with another broken bow and put a lot attention to it. I finished her in November and she turns out very accurate, took set so arrow speed is not the best. She still gets shoot by my friend (The Guy in the FD pic).
Why did I gave away my first shootable bow? Because I made 13 more since then and also she stays in the family and i can still shoot it
Yes , the bug bite me, and now its time to show off my work so maybe someone else get inspired.
My glass bows have a thick layer of dust on it and my username should describe that as well as you don´t always need highly sophisticated technology to have fun and satisfaction.
