Ipe in the works
« on: March 25, 2018, 05:35:45 pm »
I have some nice ipe with some great splice joints glued up today. Prolly going with maple backer, unless I get some more boo. Just a taste

Interesting, I'm toying with the idea of a boo/Maple/Ipe flight bow (armchair bowmaking ;) )  the idea being to save some mass by using Maple in the core.

Nice, I am following this one, never backed ipe with maple but i think it would look really good!

I have done a lot of boo/maple/ipe bows in various designs and for me it always makes the best shooters! Just wrapping up a boo/ipe molly-ish flightbow with maple in the levers core to save mass. 60" long and 80@26

Maple works well with Ipe if it is a good piece of maple.

I almost got a piece of maple for the ipe I'm working on, opted for the hickory to be on the safe side. Looking forward to seeing your results. Good luck and Good shooting.

That's one tight splice, must be an expert cut that in. Its very ironic you chose to start that because I did the same with the maple backers you sent me. :)

Good luck and have fun bubbly.

Putting some of cbg-building experience to good use, huh?

Very nice.  Looking forward to this.  Ipe is my favorite belly wood and readily available to me.

I found this thread in researching ipe/maple.  I'm not sure if adb is still active....http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,36081.0.html
