David, you should have both red osier and silky dogwood. They are very similar plants. Look along creek banks, river flood plains, and swamp edges for patches of tall shrubs with lots of straight, reddish-colored stems that look like they were put there by the creator for you to make arrow shafts from.

Very nice arrows, Dana. I have only made a few red osier arrows but like the stuff pretty good. You did a good job on these arrows...and the cane arrows.   Pat

thanks hillbilly i will look for stuff.  My dad has a part time job at Olin and where the plant and shooting range is its a swamp.
well not really a swamp like the glads but it is swamp like you know what i mean

how does it compare to rose shoots?  i love my rose arrows but they can be a devil to straighten and if there is something better than i will switch from rose

rick just google red osier, I find them in wet areas alond lakes, ditches etc. really common up here.
david they don't have thorns ;D so are easier to gather than rose shoots and I have a tough time finding
rose large enough up here

Been in the 70's here today too....been out trimming Trees and cleaning the Koi Pond....but all good things must come to an end...they are calling for Rain tomorrow....turning to Snow for Easter!!!

Nice Arrows Dana....I guess I will have to Hunt some Red Osier Dogwood when I come Home too!!!
