Green Obsidian knife
« on: September 22, 2017, 10:41:31 am »
I had to resort to my nasty green Mexican obsidian
to get a blade big enough for the handle.
I just had to do something with the antler.
Had it around to long.

Real nice!,  the Mexican Green is a bit rare, if I remember correctly.  Too pretty to use!

Thats a really beautiful knife. Does the blade have a transparency to it?

Nice knife Zuma. Did you cook that Mexican Style? Seems to me I remember you or maybe someone else saying that cooking that green Mexican Obsidian helped make it less crumbly. Or it could just be my old mind playing tricks on me. At any rate I like the knife.

Well I bought a 80 pound spall from Frank at Flint Ridge a couple years ago.
Maybe Franks last name is Berns? It is nasty raw tolerable cooked.
Yep the wide fork was the drive lol. When it raw you can't abrade it without
tons of pin and needle shards and when you smack it :-K Watch out! Short
flakes and lots of needles. Nasty  but beautiful if you can keep the steps out.
It only shows green along the edges where it is thinest with a lot of light behind.
Here ar some but the reflection makes them look worse thn they are >:D

Thanks BJ and Rob, I hope you two are getting ready for bow hunting,
It starts here in VA this comming Saturday. I am doing a gig at the local Heritage festival
So I'll have to wait till Monday.
Anywho I was looking through stuff and I found this spall.
I think it makes my point about nasty.

Naw, Berns "green" comes from Berns, Oregon and is a pale, OD green.
