New target backstop
« on: August 10, 2017, 09:47:46 pm »
This has been on my to-do list for quite some time now.  I made a backstop for the back yard.  I made it pretty large so me and my daughter can shoot without launching arrows down the wild rose covered hillside.  I brought the conveyor belt pieces home from an auction.  I bought 1 section of horse stall mat for $20.  That's the only money I had in the project.  The rest of the stuff I had on hand.  I'll give it a test run tomorrow.

I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

With 18" draw, your arrows weren't gonna go far . . . . .  >:D
... alone in distant woods or fields, in unpretending sproutlands or pastures tracked by rabbits, even in a bleak and, to most, cheerless day .... .  I suppose that this value, in my case, is equivalent to what others get by churchgoing & prayer.  Hank Thoreau, 1857

That should stop most of the Flyers, left & right!  The belting is a good backstop, we use it on our muzzle loading range to slow the lead done for easier cleanup.  Of course, you could clear the wild rose for arrows >:D!  Good idea!

It will be interesting to see the difference between the belt and the stall mat. I use a mat and it really grabs the arrows if they stick in. It's a knee and two hands to get them out.

The arrows bounce right off the conveyor belt.   I didn't test out the stall mat yet.

I saw you shoot before.  You will never need that thing - may come in handy for folks shooting with you I guess... ;D

That is a pretty good idea for a backstop.  It is on my list of things to do as well.  I really need one.

Nice set-up!... Ive used stall mat before and it makes a great stop 👍.. I had problems every now and then from it tearing out from the hanging bolts because of its wieght tho... When you hang it up dont be a tightwad with the fasteners, lol... Brian
